This guide explains how to use HEIMDAL's PEDM and the steps you should follow when requesting administrative privileges. Whenever you need to run an application that requires administrative privileges or to obtain temporary admin access for a specific task, you will need to submit a request through the HEIMDAL Agent.
Single File Elevation (“Run with Admin Privileges”)
1. Navigate to the file you need to elevate (e.g., installer, tool).
2. Right-click the file.
3. Select Run with Admin Privileges / Run with PEDM.
4. If prompted for a reason, type it in the pop-up. If not required, the application will start automatically.
5. Fill in the reason if prompted. If required, the request will be sent to your IT Admin, and you will wait for approval.
6. Once approved, click Start Now to begin the elevated session.
Temporary Admin Session (this gives you a broader time-limited session with admin rights)
1. Open the Heimdal Agent from the system tray.
2. Click Elevate or right-click the Heimdal icon and choose Request admin rights.
3. Fill in the reason if prompted; the request routes to your IT Admin (approval required unless Auto-mode is enabled).
4. After approval, you will see a window pop up in the tray and a countdown on your session.
5. You have the option of extending your session if needed. This will show up as an option, then the time runs out – extend if needed.
