What is a Malware Engine? What does it do?

The Heimdal Malware Engine analyzes potentially malicious code to detect and block Trojans, harmful scripts, spyware and other threats. It compares the signatures of the files on your computer to our constantly updated database to find potential any matches. The product is not computer resource intensive, so you should not feel any change in the performance of your operating system.

In the Malware Engine tab, you can choose to turn off active malware scanning. However, we do not recommend doing it, because it will substantially decrease your protection level.

For the GUI of the Heimdal PRO, in the Malware Engine tab, on the right hand side, you can see how many malware scans Heimdal PRO has performed on your system in the last 7 days. You can also see how many malware strains Heimdal has detected from your system in the same time frame.
