Online criminals hate us. We protect you from attacks that antivirus can't block.

Why can I access websites that were blocked some time ago?

There are multiple reasons why, all of a sudden, you can access some websites that were blocked or confirmed as blocked by the Heimdal Security support team.

Reason No. 1

Your browser might have stored some cache and cookies and for a brief time. As a result, the browser is tricked into thinking that the website is a secure one.

We recommend you do the following:

- Clear cache and cookies. If you need guidance on how to do that, please click this HERE.

- Close and reopen the browser and check if you can access the website.

- Open CMD as administrator (Start>Search for CMD) and then type ipconfig /flushdns and press enter.

Also, it is best to repeat this action from time to time just to avoid similar situations.

Reason No. 2

While you have Heimdal Security product installed and the Traffic Scanning engine is ON, you need to make sure that the filter is set on the network adapter.

You can tell if the filter is set if the DNS for the network adapter’s IPv4 is set to 127.0.0.1.

To check this you need to go to: Control Panel>Network and Sharing Centre> Change adapter settings

Here, you will need to right click on the adapter you are connected to LAN or WIFI and select Properties.

In that list, double click on the Internet Protocol Version 4 and make sure that in the windows that will open it is selected Use the following DNS server addresses and that the 127.0.0.1 is there.

.

If the network adapter’s IPv4 is set to 127.0.0.1, please read again the first reason and restart the computer, and try again to access the website.

If the network adapter’s IPv4 is NOT set to 127.0.0.1 even though the Heimdal Security’s Traffic Filtering is ON, then you need to make sure that you do not have another software that uses a certain DNS in order to work. This could replace the DNS settings that Heimdal sets. It could also happen that your antivirus or any other security software is not allowing Heimdal Security to apply the DNS setting.

Perhaps an antivirus or a VPN or a Proxy Service.

  • What VPN split - exclusion do I need to add in my VPN? Please click HERE!

You need to make sure that none of the products mentioned above are not stopping the Heimdal Security Service.

Reason No. 3

It can happen that our team reanalyzed the domain in question and it came out clean. As a consequence, we may have removed the website from our blacklist.

For more assistance, please send an email to our support team at support@heimdalsecurity.com with details of the issue you’re experiencing.
